Over the last ten years, the governing authorities and local stakeholders have been striving to ensure that decentralization is actually implemented. Decentralization is a prime mover of development, democracy and good governance at the local lever. Councilors are elected for their strong leadership skills, integrity, and commitment to serving their community. Being a councilor is an extremely challenging and satisfying experience and provides a unique opportunity to not only interact with the community, but also to influence the vision and strategic direction of council areas.

It is therefore within this framework that Municipal Councilors need to be equipped with the necessary skills on the functioning of Councils and the different roles of a Municipal Councilor so as to improve on the Local Council management and responsive development.

The training aimed at building the capacity of newly elected Councillors of the NDU Council in the NDU Sub Division, on how to effectively run and manage the activities of their Council area for the implementation of their sustainable development strategies.

The Day one of this program started on the 27th of August 2020 at 10 am with 43 participants, a word of prayer was offered and this was followed by the singing of The National Anthem. At this point the Lord Mayor of the NDU Council gave a speech and declared the program opened.
